As an elementary teacher, I am keenly aware that drawing is a child’s first form of writing. Once students start writing however, some can lose their confidence in artistic expression. I feel it is very important to show students that working on art projects – whether drawing, sculpture, pottery, or other artistic mediums - will be a way not only to be creative, but also a fun way to improve hand/eye coordination, encourage detail, and stimulate their imagination. Arbor Heights and its PTSA have strongly encouraged the creative talents of our students by bringing into our building, an Artist in Residence who describes to our students their art as well as working with the students in working in the medium of the artist.
As the Arbor Heights teacher responsible for overseeing the Artists in Residence project, I work with all of our students, kindergarten through 5th grade. I am limited by a budget that provides only the basics in art material: paper, glue, crayons and markers. Some of our artists use very unique material which we need to purchase so students can personally connect – up close and personal – with the artist and the art form being taught by our visiting artist and Arbor Heights staff.
Our students this year are exploring in clay the artistic visions offered by our Artist in Residence. To decorate their creations and finish their artwork, we need ceramic glazes. The base cost of an assortment of 6 Amaco LG Series Gloss Glazes from Blick Art Materials is $65.99, for a total project cost of $87.33 including shipping and handling, tax, and 15% fulfillment.
Thank you for helping our art shine.
